Origin of the Chessie Fade Finish

 In Blog

In July 2018, I had the idea to bring together elements of our shop history, our love of Paul Reed Smith guitars, and the Chesapeake Bay.  If you’re not familiar with our shop location,  we are less than half a mile to the nearest Bay tributary.  This is fitting since our founder, Bruce Packett, has spent the majority of his life boating on the Bay.  Growing up Packett, I was no stranger to spending time on the water and to this day I spend as much time as possible cruising the Bay.

Searching for the perfect way for a guitar to compliment the bay, I happened upon some wonderful satellite imagery of the area.  Immediately, I was captivated by the flow of color from the sandy murky northern Bay to the greens, browns, and deep blues that make up the many colors indicative of the Chesapeake Bay.  The colors are unique for water and the good folks at Paul Reed Smith brought my vision of the ‘Chessie Fade’ finish to life.  I am pleased to announce that this color is a Bay Tunes Guitars exclusive and will only be available on select Private Stock instruments available from Bay Tunes in 2019.

I can’t wait to show off each of these heir-loom level instruments as they arrive over the next several months.  Each one features woods hand selected by the Bay Tunes team in conjunction with PRS’ Private Stock team.  We’ve put as much of ourselves and inspiration from this area into this  run of guitars and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.  If you are interested in purchasing one of these instruments, please let us know!
