McCarty III pickups were spec’d by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Products Engneering team. From our own hands-on research into coveted vintage pickup models to advancements in signal analyzation and “tuning” technology, these pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained in recent years of R&D. PRS McCarty III pickups are vintage-inspired humbuckers that bring a vocal clarity to their full, warm tone. PRS Narrowfield pickup in the middle position delivers the bite of a single coil, so it cuts through the mix with plenty of clarity and punch – but without the hum.
Paired with a 5-way blade switch and two mini-toggles that tap the McCarty III humbuckers, this guitar can handle myriad sounds and styles (with twelve pickup combinations in total). Roll back the tone control for added growl, turn it up for some shimmer, and have fun exploring this versatile tonal palette. The volume level between the humbucking and single-coil settings remains very even, and the semi-hollow body with single f-hole provides a welcome airiness and depth to the guitar’s tone.
Additional specifications on the PRS Special Semi-Hollow include a maple top, mahogany back, 22-fret 25” scale length mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons, and the PRS Gen III patented tremolo.
